Funding Approvals Process

Introduction

This section provides information, processes and procedures to assist Approved Organisations (AOs), the NZTA and other investment partners in applying for funding assistance from the NZTA for activities under the National Land Transport programme (NLTP).

Overview

On its adoption by the NZTA Board, the NLTP consists of:

  • Committed activities – have obtained a funding assistance commitment from the NZTA prior to the NLTP adoption.
  • Approved activities – approved for funding assistance from the NZTA when the NZTA Board adopts the NLTP.  These are mostly programmed activities, e.g. maintenance, operations and renewals programmes for local roads and state highways, and
  • Listed Activities – included in the NLTP but not approved for funding assistance from the NZTA when the NZTA Board adopted the NLTP. These often comprise phases of improvement projects that are not ready for funding assistance approval at the time of NLTP adoption.

Unlisted activities and programme variations

After the NZTA Board adopts the NLTP, AOs, the NZTA and other investment partners may:

  • promote for funding assistance new activities that have not been not listed in the NLTP, or
  • otherwise vary their programmes (and consequently the NLTP), e.g. through cost-scope adjustments.

The NZTA may only approve funding assistance to an activity if it is included in the NLTP.

The processes for adding unlisted activities to the current NLTP and for programme variations are set out in Unlisted activities and programme variations.
