Work category 215: Structures component replacements

 

Introduction

This work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements
provides for the renewal of components of:

  • road bridges A structure designed to carry a road or path over an obstacle by spanning it. This includes culverts with a cross-sectional area greater than or equal to 3.4 square metres.
  • retaining structures
  • guardrails A rail erected to restrain vehicles from physically leaving the road, including wire-rope barriers.
  • tunnels
  • stock access structures
  • cattle stops
  • footpaths That portion of the road reserve set aside for the use of pedestrians only. on road structures, and
  • pedestrian over-bridges A structure designed to carry a road or path over an obstacle by spanning it. This includes culverts with a cross-sectional area greater than or equal to 3.4 square metres. /underpasses A grade separation where the traffic passes under an intersecting highway or railway. .

This definition applies to the 2012-15 NLTP A National Land Transport Programme Interrelated and complementary combination of activities that, when delivered in a coordinated manner, produce synergies – can span more than one work category and more than one activity class, e.g. a programme could include a road improvement and public transport improvement activities. adopted by the NZTA under section 19 of the LTMA, as from time to time amended or varied .  For the 2015-18 NLTP please refer to the updated definition for work category 215.

     

    Examples of qualifying activities

    Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

    • replacement of deteriorated structural members
    • replacement of damaged components
    • replacement of bridge decks
    • replacement or modification of gabion A rectangular wire-mesh cage filled with boulders, used to retain embankments and riverbanks. baskets
    • replacement of handrails on structures
    • replacement of guardrail components, and
    • replacement of crib blocks in retaining structures supporting roads.

     

    Other potential activities that are not in the above list should be discussed with the NZTA for eligibility.
