The road policing programme incorporates:

Default strategic fit

By default, the strategic fit rating for road policing activities is low.

Requirements for medium rating

A medium rating for strategic fit may be given for road policing activities which make a contribution to reductions in the number of crashes involving deaths and serious injuries by addressing road safety non-compliance risk in the areas of:

  • roads and roadsides (including efficient incident management)
  • heavy commercial vehicle fleet
  • crash attendance and reporting
  • restraints in areas of greatest risk

Requirements for high rating

A high strategic fit rating must only be given for road policing activities which make a significant contribution to reductions in the number of crashes involving deaths and serious injuries by addressing road safety non-compliance risk in the areas of:

  • high risk drivers
  • young drivers
  • motorcycles
  • alcohol and drugs
  • speed
