Service lanes

Introduction

The cost of construction, ongoing maintenance and renewal of service lanes, where these are declared as legal roads, is eligible for funding assistance from the National Land Transport Fund (NLTF The fund established under section 10 of the LTMA ).

Betterment The increased value of land arising from improved access in terms of s.326 of the Local Government Act.

Where betterment applies:

• any amount received by way of betterment must be first deducted as supplementary funding from the total cost, leaving a residual on which funding assistance is claimed.
• the value of betterment should not be determined until the service lane has actually been formed, sealed and declared.
