Work category 524: Public transport information supply, operations and maintenance

Introduction

This work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements provides for off-vehicle management, operations and maintenance (including like for like replacement) costs for the information provision and related functions that support the delivery of bus, ferry and rail public transport services and Total Mobility.

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

• marketing and promotional activities including timetable information and displays,
• operation of call centres,
• operation and maintenance of real time information systems and ticketing systems including management and analysis of the data generated by electronic ticketing and real time information systems,
• preparation and production of reports including user satisfaction surveys  for the information of government or the public,
• routine maintenance and updating of public transport planning documents, such as regular updates of the statistics and indicators contained in Regional Public Transport Plans Plans describe the tactics to give effect to a strategy. They are specific in content, action oriented and outputs focussed, resulting in a tangible set of activities to be delivered within a clear timeframe. , and
• loan repayments where agreed by the Transport Agency.

Other potential activities that are not in the above list of examples should be discussed with the Transport Agency for eligibility.

Exclusions

This work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements excludes any costs for:

• renewal or improvement of electronic ticketing or real time information systems and equipment. This is covered under Work category 531: Public transport infrastructure, major renewals and minor improvements,
• review of public transport planning documents where public consultation is required. This should be funded from Work category 003: Activity management planning improvement, and
• any equipment that is included within a contract for the delivery of services.

Funding assistance rate (FAR The usual contribution in percentage terms, that the NZTA augments funding of an approved organisation, for the delivery of an activity or combination of activities. )

The usual funding assistance rate is:

• the Approved Organisation's normal FAR.

Approved commitments in the 2015-18 NLTP A National Land Transport Programme Interrelated and complementary combination of activities that, when delivered in a coordinated manner, produce synergies – can span more than one work category and more than one activity class, e.g. a programme could include a road improvement and public transport improvement activities. adopted by the NZTA under section 19 of the LTMA, as from time to time amended or varied that extend from the 2012-15 NLTP beyond 30 June 2015 will continue at their approved rates.

Applying for funding approval

Applications for funding approval should be made through:

• the Public transport existing services module in Transport Investment Online (TIO The NZTA's web-based funding allocation system. ), or
• the Improvement activity module in TIO The NZTA's web-based funding allocation system. .
