Work category 214: Sealed road pavement rehabilitation

 

Introduction
This work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements
provides for the replacement of, or restoration of strength to, sealed pavements where other forms of maintenance and renewal are no longer economic.

 

Examples of qualifying activities

Examples of qualifying activities include, but may not be limited to:

  • granular overlays
  • rip and relay
  • pavement The road structure that is constructed on the subgrade and supports the traffic loading. stabilisation
  • asphaltic overlays or grader-laid asphaltic material
  • pavement The road structure that is constructed on the subgrade and supports the traffic loading. replacement (including the use of recycled materials)
  • structural asphaltic concrete rehabilitation.

 

Other potential activities that are not in the above list should be discussed with the Transport Agency for eligibility.

 

Work category qualification

To qualify for inclusion in this work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

* activity class 12 – local road improvements
* activity class 13 – state highways improvements
, the work must be the long-term least-cost option for the Approved Organisation and the Transport Agency (state highways), calculated in terms of present value (PV A future cost or benefit at its discounted value at the present day. Net present value (NPV) is the present value of a future benefit less the present value of the associated future cost. All benefits and costs are in current day values, without adjustment for inflation. ).

 

Approved Organisations and the Transport Agency (state highways) must undertake benefit and cost appraisals of individual projects and make copies of the evaluations available as requested by the Transport Agency. Exclusions

excludes:

  • improvements – where it is prudent to carry out some improvements in conjunction with the rehabilitation, this may be programmed under Work category 341: Minor Improvements if the Total Cost for Approval is $300,00 or less.  For improvements costing more than $300,000, this should be carried out under the appropriate improvement work category A type of activity – not confined to a particular activity class, e.g. new roads (work category 323) appears in:

    * activity class 12 – local road improvements
    * activity class 13 – state highways improvements

  • pavement The road structure that is constructed on the subgrade and supports the traffic loading. strengthening of unsealed roads – this is funded under Work category 211: Unsealed road metalling.
